Heart disease is the term which covers all the issues related to heart including blood vessels, circulatory system, and the heart itself. Cardiovascular diseases, coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, congenital heart defects, myocardial infarction, and heart failure are some major heart problems.


Cardiovascular diseases are related to some abnormality with blood vessels and circulatory system. It can happen due to a narrowed or blocked blood vessel and can lead to heart attack, angina, and stroke.


Coronary arteries are responsible to supply blood with nutrients and oxygen to the heart. A plaque of cholesterol can damage the coronary artery and make it difficult for nutrients and oxygen to reach at heart. Arrhythmia is related to an irregular heartbeat.


In this condition, the heart beats irregularly. Sometimes it beats too fast, sometimes

too slow and sometimes erratically. Congenital heart diseases are some defects of the heart that are present with birth. Heart diseases other than cardiovascular diseases are related to some abnormality or defect in heart muscles, heart valves, and rhythm.


According to a study heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States.

The study says every 37 seconds a person dies due to cardiovascular disease in the United States.


Signs and Symptoms


The signs and symptoms of heart disease vary and depend on the condition. The common symptoms of cardiovascular disease are:

  • Angina (Chest pain)

  • Shortness of breath

  • Dizziness

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • A pain that travels between the neck, jaw, shoulder, arm, chest, upper abdomen, and back.

  • Sweating

  • Heart palpitations

Angina is chest pain and lasts for 10-15 minutes but it can lead to heart attack and heart failure. Angina happens when some part of the heart is not getting enough oxygen.

Some general symptoms of congenital heart disease are:

  • sweating

  • fatigue (severe level

  • Rapid heartbeat

  • Shortness of breath

  • Chest pain

  • A blue tint to the skin

  • Clubbed fingernails

Causes and risk factors

Causes and risk factors for some type of heart diseases such as congenital heart disease and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy are genetics. These defects of the heart can happen to a person before birth. But there are some risk factors and possible causes of cardiovascular disease and arrhythmia that can be handled by some lifestyle modifications. These causes and risk factors include:


  • High blood pressure

  • Smoking

  • A sedentary lifestyle

  • Stress from family or work

  • Diabetes

  • Obesity

  • A poor and inadequate diet

  • High blood cholesterol levels

  • Family History of diabetes and heart disease


Some natural remedies to improve heart health


You cannot rely totally on natural remedies to cure heart disease but some lifestyle

modifications and a healthy diet full of fruits and vegetables can prevent heart disease and can help to reverse the condition. The following are some lifestyle changes that can improve heart health.


  • Quit smoking

  • Eat fiber-rich, low sodium, and low-fat diet based on whole plant-based foods with low-fat dairy products, limited lean meat, and seafood.

  • Maintain a healthy weight

  • Limit alcohol consumption

  • Exercise and walk daily

  • Avoid stress

  • Control your blood pressure and blood sugar

  • Get adequate sleep at night
