egg.

EGG

The egg is a must for all kids and should also be taken by people of all age groups.

The egg is a widespread food which can be prepared in many forms and can also be

incorporated with other diets.

There are a lot of speculations around this natural avian product,

but here you will get to know what egg can do for the eyes.

The Egg yolks are high in lutein. Lutein is a type of carotenoid, and it helps fight Age-related macular degeneration or foveal degeneration.

Reducing the risk of macular degeneration helps prevent blindness in the elderly; macular degeneration is one of the common causes of legal blindness in the developed world.

Lutein can be gotten from leafy vegetables like broccoli and kale, but studies from scientists have shown that the body absorbs more lutein when it's from egg rather than when its from plants. To reduce the risk of Age-related Macular Degeneration, always remember to put an egg in your menu at least 3 to 4times in a week.

Egg also contains vitamin A and zinc. The two antioxidants (Vit. A and Zinc) safeguard the

cornea of the eye; zinc contributes to the health of retina (which is the photosensitive area of the visual system).

Eggs also contain another essential element called zeaxanthin. Zeaxanthin is an antioxidant which plays a vital role for the eyes. It protects the eyes against damages that could result from ultraviolet radiations from the sun. Zeaxanthin also reduces the risk of developing cataracts.

A cataract is another common cause of blindness and visual disability.

In the brain, which is the centre of visual processing, the choline found in egg yolks stimulates the brain function and development. This action further helps your visual pathways, especially during older Age.

Each egg contains at least 70 calories, 14 essential vitamins and a lot of other trace elements. Taking an egg is like taking a multivitamin pill, and these vitamins act as an antioxidant which protects the eye, prevents damages, encourage cell reproduction, and also help reduce the severity of existing ocular diseases.

The American Heart Association has suggested that one or two eggs per day are good for people who eat them. Eggs dont cause heart defects and don't increase the risk of existing heart problems. Eggs have been found to reduce the risk of developing diabetes and also help those living with diabetes.

Its cholesterol content doesn't constitute any problem in the body because the LDL content is almost inconsequential. For those who enjoy egg fried eggs, using a non-tropical vegetable oil like olive oil and corn is better than using animal fats.

Taking cooked eggs are better than taking fried ones but don't take raw eggs because it increases the risk of salmonella infection.

If you have been ignoring or skipping eggs, now is the time to pick them up because taking an egg is like taking a natural multivitamins pill. This is immensely beneficial to the eye and general health.

You can imagine that eggs contain Vitamin A, Lutein, Zeaxanthin, Zinc and 12 other essential nutrients. Can you afford to miss a natural product which offers such immense ocular and general benefit?

As a Doctor of the Eye, I have personally seen the effects egg can have on the retina even when taken for a short while hence it's imperative that you incorporate this multivitamin pill in your diets.
