Reasons Why Water is Important?

Water is one of the essential nutrients for our body because it is required in an amount that exceeds our body’s ability to produce it. All reactions in our bodies take place in water. It helps is filling the spaces between and inside cells, which aids in forming large molecule structures such as glycogen and protein.

Our human body comprises of 60 percent of water. It is recommended that we need to

drink 237 mL of water that is almost 6 to 8 glasses or cups of water every day. One can check if his water intake is according to the requirement and is his body hydrated by looking at his urine color. Clear urine shows that you are drinking too much water, and if it is darker, it shows that you need to drink more water.

There are many benefits of drinking water, such as:

  1. It helps maximize one’s physical performance: If one doesn’t stay hydrated, his physical performance can suffer. If one exercises, he loses a significant amount of water in sweat, so he needs to stay hydrated to avoid dehydration and fatigue.

  2. It reduces sugar cravings and helps in weight loss: Our brain can’t differentiate between hunger and thirst, so we often mistake sugar cravings with thirst. So the next time one feels a sugar craving, one can simply drink water. Also drinking water before a meal helps one to eat less and maintain one’s weight.

  3. It reduces headaches and migraines: Dehydration can cause headaches and migraines, so some studies suggest that drinking water helps relieve headaches and migraines.

  4. Skin benefits: Helps in improving skin tone and preventing pre-mature aging. It also prevents acne and tightens your skin.

  5. Helps in treating kidney stones: Kidney stones are a clump of mineral crystals in the kidney. High water intake increases the volume of one’s urine that passes through the kidney, which dilutes the minerals and reduces the chance of crystallization.

  6. It has a significant effect on the brain’s energy level and functioning: Our hydration level influences our minds. Studies show that even mild dehydration can impair many brain functions.

  7. It reduces the risks of bladder infections: Studies prove that the more one drinks water, the fewer chances of bladder infection.

  8. It helps manage anxiety and anger: Hydration does impact one’s brain and body. Research has shown that dehydration can negatively impact one’s mood, which may give rise to the symptoms of anxiety.
